Time to Start Blogging!

Melissa and I are so excited to be expecting our first child and look forward to documenting that journey on this blog. Though Melissa will likely be the author of most of these posts, I've been put in charge of the first one.

Melissa and I met with our OB-GYN today and had a lot of information thrown our way. We both feel a bit overwhelmed at times while trying to learn so much about the pregnancy process but are embracing the challenge. A due date was set for May 31, 2010. The baby continues to grow at a "normal" pace and the heart rate remains at a good level. The baby's heart rate measured at 158 beats per minute and the length was 1.5 inches. Unfortunately we do not have pictures to post from the ultra sound. Dr. Klein made what I thought was a very accurate comparison today when she said babies at this point in development look like gummy bears. It sounds funny, but was actually very true. The arms and the legs are now very much distinguishable. During the ultrasound the baby was very active and moving around alot, which was very interesting to observe.

Melissa is doing well at this point. She deserves a lot of credit going into work every day despite being very tired and rather nauseous throughout the day. She doesn't exactly have a visible "baby bump" yet, but the Dr. said that is only a few weeks away.

Overall, we are very excited to experience this whole process and even though it is several months away, we can't wait to hold the little one in our arms. Our next doctor's visit will take place at the end of November.

  1. Well done Matt! We're so happy for you and Melissa - looking forward to all your updates! Hope Melissa is feeling better soon; the second trimester is typically the "good" one, and it's just around the corner.
PS - Also excited for some good ultrasound shots of gummy bear Bussa. :)
